About Me

Dr. David Yuh is committed to providing his patients with innovative heart care. He performs all types of adult cardiac surgery and specializes in minimally invasive cardiac operations.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yuh has delivered leading-edge care. In 2003, he led a team that performed Johns Hopkins Hospital’s first minimally-invasive robotic heart operation, placing a biventricular pacemaker lead in a patient with ischemic dilated cardiomyopathy. That same year, his team performed Hopkins’ first robotic “open-heart” operation, successfully repairing the mitral valve of a 78-year-old man.

Dr. Yuh advanced quickly in his field. After completing his residencies in general and cardiothoracic surgery at the Stanford University Medical Center, he served as chief resident of cardiothoracic surgery from 2000-2001. He joined the Johns Hopkins Division of Cardiac Surgery that year as an assistant professor of surgery and two years later became the director of the minimally-invasive cardiac surgical program. Dr. Yuh was subsequently appointed associate professor of surgery in 2005 with a joint appointment in the Whiting School of Engineering. He was recruited to Yale University in 2011 as the chief of cardiac surgery and surgical director of the Yale-New Haven Hospital Heart and Vascular Center. Over the next five years at Yale, Dr. Yuh rose to the rank of professor in the department of surgery. Seeking a greater scope of responsibility and new opportunities for program building, Dr. Yuh joined the Stamford Hospital community as chair of the department of surgery.

His current research focuses on computational modeling of cardiac structures, particularly the mitral valve, and improving neurocognitive outcomes in elderly patients undergoing cardiac surgery. He has authored or co-authored numerous research publications, is the lead editor of two cardiac surgical textbooks on adult and pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, has served on several NIH study sections and is a permanent voting member of the FDA Circulatory Devices Advisory Panel. Dr. Yuh also serves on multiple committees for the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American Association for Thoracic Surgery and American Heart Association and is a reviewer for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the Annals of Thoracic Surgery, the Annals of Surgery and Circulation.
